It's been a some time since i thought of this serigraph, but any ideas if/when that "Consegna Espressa" will ever be released?

Maybe it will be in the upcoming "Shag Ltd" catalog as the rarest serigraph on the market - i've only seen/heard of the one from last spring's "Infernal Intentions."

"glamourkitten" on Tiki Central has posted pics of the "Take Five" original she is selling. Asking price is $7,500.00 - check it out here. Nice piece, wish i had a stack of cash tucked away so i could buy it.

Very cool news you can use concerning Shag, Ltd -

The book you mention, Shag, Ltd., is actually a catalogue raisonne of Shag's prints. It will be released in conjunction with a show at Copro Nason Gallery in Santa Monica this December. The show will include one of EVERY Shag print/etching/etc. that has been produced to date, and by now that has to be near 100. For more information on the book/catalogue, I suggest you visit the publishers website:

http://www.lastgasp.com/d/27058/

I hope that helps.

Cheers!
Piet Agle

Sweet! Copro/Nason and Last Gasp working together - their "Night of the Tiki" rocks, so i have no doubt this book will be a fanboy and fangirl's dream!

Ahhh, with my super-sight powers i can see "words words more words by Douglas Nason" at the bottom right of the cover (a tad below "The Minotaur, Steadfast and Persistent").

Got an e-mail from Susan (long time listerner, first time caller) that she saw a listing on Amazon for "Shag: Art of Josh Agle Postcard Book" from Chronicle Books (ISBN: 0811851869 ).

Some sites list the release date as June 2006, some say April. Looking at the Chronicle Books site, the other postcard books they're selling for $9.95 have 30 postcards (perfect for you "mini-print" dealers).

Holy cats! What in the heck is this!?!

SHAG, LTD. by Shag
Rendered in eye-popping, mood-enhancing colors, with a deceptively simple sense of design, the world of Shag transports viewers into a realm of hedonistic pursuits and elegant pleasures whose overriding theme decrees: the party must go on! This limited edition volume features the complete prints and posters of Josh Agle, a.k.a. Shag, the California-based artist whose bold, bright, irreverent takes on the
swingin' styles and profiles of jetsetters, cocktail-lounge crawlers, scene-stealing supervillains, and party animals have made him one of the most popular painters working today.

HC (0-867-19647-5)—11x9, 152pgs, PC SRP: $39.95
TP (0-867-19646-7)—11x9, 152pgs, PC SRP: $24.95

That came from Diamond Comics' order book for items to be released in January. The write-up also included "(CAUT: 4) = All information is subject to change, but this item should ship no later than 90 days past its scheduled ship date."

..and this is from Last Gasp's web-page -

The complete prints and posters of Josh Agle, a.k.a. Shag, the California-based artist whose bold, bright, irreverent takes on the swingin' styles and profiles of jetsetters, cocktail-lounge crawlers, scene-stealing supervillains and (literal) party animals have made him one of the most popular painters working today. Rendered in eye-popping, mood-enhancing colors, with a deceptively simple sense of design, the world of Shag transports viewers into a realm of hedonistic pursuits and elegant pleasures whose overriding theme
decrees: the party must go on!

Finding incongruous humor -- and a bit of truth -- in such recognizable human habits as courtship, seduction, entertainment and sin, Shag's paintings have seen heavy demand result in rising
prices, decreasing the number of buyers able to obtain them. Determined that his art should be available to the broadest audience possible, Agle turned to high quality prints beginning in 1999, issuing them in limited editions to retain a sense of uniqueness at a fraction of the cost of one of his originals. Collected here for the first time, these prints document the evolution of color, content and composition in Shag’s work that have turned fans into fanatics.
Put together with all the care and devotion that goes into one of Shag's own prints, SHAG, LTD. is packed with over 175 full-color reproductions-- from rare peeks at Shag's "pre-Shag" college art to his latest efforts -- along with illustrated essays offering insight into the phenomenal success of his work. Chronologically arranged and annotated with information on size, print run and date of publishing, straight from the artist's own secret archives, this catalogue raisonne of Shag's mass produced art contains comprehensive coverage for collectors, fanciers and those hitherto unacquainted with his long sold-out limited edition serigraphs, offset lithos and etchings.

Shag's site has been updated with some images from Space Force Gallery's "California Sun" (opens Nov 26th).
Let's begin the hopeful wishing that the serigraph release will be from the actual show. I just remembered that the previous Japanese shows had serigraphs made from the show poster - Dangerous Women & Music After Midnight.

(News page was last updated Jan 17th and the Shows page is pointless with the introduction of the Events page a while back.)
-----

Any idea if/when ShagMart will be selling the "West Coast Jazz" serigraph or is it strictly a La Luz and Earl McGrath thing?

-----

The final three jumbo pins for Disneyland will be released on Nov 12th -

Coincidentally enough, they're going to be released on the same exact day as the Disneyland Map items.

Yet another "shill for big tobacco" poster was up on eBay a week and a half ago. (I didn't publicize this one until after it was over to avoid a bid frenzy like the last one.)

My "Shag With A Twist" DVD arrived in the mail last week. I still have yet to watch it, but I'll kick it into gear soon and post my thoughts.

Wowee wow - check out the new Disneyland Anniversary shirts!

Article about these marketing geniuses from the San Francisco Chronicle with some audio samples (Dirty Martini sample is here).

Here's a pic of the cover Shag did for "Bottom Line" magazine -

(Yep, it's a tweaked "Palm Springs After Dark," one of Mr. Agle's best.)

$7,000.00 for this?

Yeah, I didn't think so either.

A healthy and hearty scoop of Elvis-flavored "thankyouverymuch" to Ed, Mike, and Brian for the help with throwing this together!

Trying for darndest to find info on Shag's upcoming show in Japan with little to no luck, but here's a pic of a shirt released to commemorate the "Dangerous Women" show from 2001 -

The Japan show was mentioned in ShagMart's last mass e-mail -
For those of you keeping an eye on Shag's future shows...looks like November 2005 he'll be in Japan, April 2006 in Australia, and November 2006 in New York.
Nov 2005 Japan show - no info as of yet
Apr 2006 Australia show - Outre Gallery (could it be anyplace else?)
Nov 2006 show in NYC - Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Somewhere and sometime there should be a bare-knuckle brawl between M Modern and Outre to see which is truly the best. While i'm waiting for that to happen, i'll just say this - they're both tied for first place as all around kick-arse gallery...

Speaking of Outre, here's a tidbit from their most recent newsletter (eBay scalpers please ignore the next down to the "NOTE" in this blog):
In stock now: great brand new Shag book SHAG: THE ART OF JOSH AGLE. Big hardcover tome of over 220 pages. We are also getting the limited edition version which you can pre-order with us now.
Also, Outre still has copies of that "Dr Scorpio's Lair" serigraph for sale for US $350 (+ US $25 shipping).

NOTE: The aforementioned 'bare-knuckle' brawl was only mentioned in jest. i'm a lover, not a fighter. (Well, really not much of either, but, in this day and age, describing yourself as a 'lover' is better PR).

-----

Miles Thompson (aka kooch on Tiki Central) is an amazing artist in his own right (check out his keen site here). He's posted this piece of news you can use on TC:
rumor has it on Nov 5th at La Luz de Jesus Gallery on Sunset Blvd there is going to be a book signing as well as an art exhibit including new art from Shag, Dave Burke, Tiki tony, Crazy Al, Stuckie/Munktiki, Jeffrey Vallance, Davey, Ewik, Bosko, and myself...
Not a Grand Member of TC yet? Well, hop to it!

i'm still looking for a link for Davey (if there is one) - this guy's stuff in Tiki Art Two is great!
