Alrightey, i'm getting the 'you leave now' looks, so i'll sign off - Happy Halloween (or Devil's Night for you folks in the Northern cities).

Signing off for a while (yet again) - the move from Japan back to the US o' A has begun.

Don't forget the "Call of Kapu" in London, Philly's "Ghost Town," and Seattle's "Monsters A Go Go" - should be back on-line by the time M-Modern opens their "My Way" show.

Happy Halloween and (to all you US citizens) don't forget to vote.

"Call of Kapu" gallery page has been updated - eight originals, twenty-one Artist Proof prints (including "Four Tikis"), and a show print set featuring "Hu-Hula 1" and "Hu-Hula 2". Pssst - anyone know if the serigraph set will be oval-shaped like that?

The Apart Gallery's site is here. A map from MultiMap.com...and another from Streetmap.co.uk.

Elizabeth Khuri wrote an article for the "Daily Breeze" that mentioned "Shag with a Twist" -

This March it is launching a show at the Los Angeles Theater Center called "Shag With a Twist" with the help of a for-profit production company and aid from the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs department. "We are growing in professional value," Bradley explained. The "Shag With a Twist" budget is nearly 200 percent higher than previous productions, making it possible to use more full-time dancers, work with an entirely original score by Chris Lang and hire the Pink Panther acclaimed artist Shag for set design.

i don't have time to tapdance around the subject - would you pay $7,500 for this 10 by 12 inch original? i guess it's a better deal than the price s/he is charging for "The Discerning Guests" or "Dr Scorpio" prints.

"She Dreams of the Alps" goes on sale to the public tomorrow, October 18th at 4 PM PST.

Friday, October 15, 2004

Well Kiss My Grits!

ShagMart's News page was updated on Thursday, 14 Oct.

"She Dreams of the Alps" will go on sale on Monday, 18 Oct - no time given.

...and that's about it!

Shag's name missing from the gent's sweater on the print as opposed to the painting...

...and the wall lamp is off too!

(This is what entertains me in my empty house when i'm allowed to use the computer by my vexatious wife!)

I had to mention the Japan only Pink Panther/Shag items, didn't I? Less than 24 hours later some fink is selling them on eBay.

Mondo Lounge is this weekend for all you So-Cal folks. Enjoy that Shag shotglass in your Goodie Bag!

"Holidays on Ice" is happening in Paris at the Paul Smith Gallery (link to gallery is useless) until Monday. No word when the show print, "She Dreams of the Alps," (which wasn't part of the show) will be released.

-----

"Call of Kapu" opens in London two weeks from today, 28 Oct 04 - no images on-line yet. Don't bother clicking the gallery link on that page - it takes you to the aforementioned useless Paul Smith page. The Apart Gallery's site is here.

"The Hitcher"

Show - Pick of the Litter
Dates - June 4 to 30, 2004
Gallery - DC Gallery, Denver, Colorado
eBay Auction #3749752213 - "Shag/Josh Agle Original Painting "The Hitcher""
Auction Started - Sep-19-04 19:15:00 PDT

Seller - pigport101
Opening Price - $2,550.00
Closing Price - $6,600.00
Winner - vintage-animation

This original is a classic Shag subject that will only go up in value.

Isn't that bad mojo to promise that it will increase in value? What sort of guarantees are there - increase XXXX amount by XXXX time? Even investment bankers make sure to point out that they cannot promise a return.

Haven't seen one of these in a while - a Tiki Tones necklace/charm.

Each member of the band had their names inscribed on the back of each necklace. Lord Wahini was SHAG's alter ego in the band.

Uh.... no. Shag was Lono or Shag Lono.

I wonder if Steeve Jacobs is still selling them for $5.00 a piece as the Tiki Tones web-page states?

-----

Image from Shag's piece from Tin Man Alley's group show, Ghost Town, is on their site.

"Hygienesis"
18.00" x 24.00"
Acrylic on Panel Framed: 30.5" x 24"
Framed with a Fabric Covered Liner and Black Moulding
Sold (the countdown to it's arrival on eBay has begun)

-----

Rog la Rue in Seattle is also hosting a Halloween-themed group show, Monsters A Go Go (opening Friday, 15 Oct).

"Surf Monsters"

Hopefully the album cover illustration for the surf compilation, Surf Monsters, isn't the sole Shag contribution to the show.

Odd Shag find....

Tried out Amazon.com's attempt at a Google competitor, a9.com, a few weeks back and found this image when doing a "josh shag agle" search.

Clicking on the image's link on a9 sends you here, a townhome write-up missing the Shag "homage" wall-painting.

Continuing the Pink Panther kick -

Stuff-O-Rama is selling some nice looking Shag/Pink Panther bar-ware.

Also, I've seen some Japan-only Shag/Pink Panther items released through Sakamoto (site had some images, but they've gone missing). Anyway, it's the usual tchotchkes - pens, pencils, notepads, handmirrors, pencil cases, cell phone mascots, etc - everything any teenage Japanese girl would need.

-----

Have you gotten a copy of the amazing "L.A. Modern" serigraph yet?

Give a finger to the eBay scalpers and instead call the nice folks at the Los Angeles Conservancy office at (213) 623-2489.

-----

Finally, the second sale of Shag's "Tiki Quartet" begins on 18 Oct - check out Tiki Central's page for more info.

Nice set of images - too bad mine are packed up in a wooden crate crossing the Pacific Ocean right now.

Sunday, October 10, 2004

Quick note - Don't forget Mondo Lounge this weekend.

(Now... back to packing up everything i own...)
