Hint Mint has just released a Holiday Series by Shag -

Here's a link to get a gift set pack.

Saturday, November 19, 2005

i've gotten more than one super-secret e-mail in the past twenty-four hours stating that Shag's birthdate is - August 31, 1962.

Not knowing much of anything about the whole zodiac scheme of things, i consulted the cranks on Wikipedia for information.

Let's see - going by the tropical zodiac (largely exclusive to The Americas and western European astrologers), August 31st corresponds to Virgo.

According to this Chinese zodiac page, Shag was born in the year of the tiger.

Thanks to everyone who sent me the info!

You would think they would ship it in a tube instead of a 4 by 5 foot box - i pity the UPS person who had to drag this to our palatial home!

News from Duchess Cinderella about Shag With A Twist -
We are very pleased to announce that Shag with a Twist was awarded a prestigious 2005 Ovation Award at ceremonies held last night at the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles. The Ovation Awards are presented by the LA Stage Alliance and are considered LA’s equivalent to the Tony’s.

The competition was fierce. A record 409 productions registered for the Ovation Awards with 79 of them receiving at least one nomination. Awards were given to only 29.

Shag with a Twist took home the prize for Best “Costume Design Large Theatre.” Fellow nominees in this category included two major Music Center Theatre Group productions (The School for Scandal at the Taper and A Perfect Wedding at the Kirk Douglas) and four national traveling shows (remounts of Miss Saigon, Peter Pan, My Fair Lady and Grand Hotel). We’re even more proud to be acknowledged for an original work in this category.

Congratulations to Josh Agle (aka, Shag) for his incredible costume designs and to Joel Berlin for bringing those designs to life!

We are currently in talks with one of the largest hotel & casino groups in Las Vegas to take Shag there. We’ve also had continued dialogues with prospective venues and sponsors interested in a tour. Last night’s award win will certainly help increase attention in the show and insure that it has a life beyond its initial LA run.

Thanks for your continued support and well wishes!

Interesting question from Jeff showed up in the e-mail, maybe someone out there knows - what is Shag's birthdate?
Do you know Josh's birthdate? I was debating with my girlfriend as to what sign he is, but I can't find it anywhere.
All i know is the standard bio line of "born in 1962 in Sierra Madre, California, SHAG, the alter ego of illustrator and painter Josh Agle, grew up in Hawaii and Southern California." Is there anyone out there can help out Jeff?

(i'm not a very good stalker, am i? To be honest, my interest in his personal life is nil. He's just like you or i. To paraphrase famed Blue Öyster Cult producer Bruce Dickinson, he puts his pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us. Except, once he gets those pants on, he paints some amazing pictures.)

Copro/Nason has posted a press release for the "Shag Ltd" show/book (highlights follow).

...newest 2005 releases, Behind the Screen and Well Hung.
i'm guessing the image in the show banner is 'Well Hung'...
The SHAG, LTD exhibition opens Saturday, December 3, 2005 with a reception at 8 p.m. sponsored by Juxtapoz magazine, the leading light of today’s “lowbrow” art movement, and runs through January 21, 2006. The catalogue raisonné is due to be released December 10 with a signing beginning at 2 p.m.
"Sponsored by Juxtapoz"!?! Does Robt Wms know about this? Did he have a change of opinion?

Might Shag have his 3rd article/interview with the magazine (last one was 4 years ago)? Maybe a cover (not once in 59 issues)?

---

From Copro/Nason's "News & Updates" page -

November 16, 2005 - We will also have 2 new silkscreen prints from Shag avaliable at the opening as well as on our web-site. The images will be the cover of the book and the Frontis (first image in the book). These seriagraphs will be the same high quality as our previous editions. Oil based ink silk screened expertly on top grade rag paper with deckled edges. The edition will be 100 for each so get one while they last. Look on the web-site in the next few days for more info.

November 15, 2005 - The new web-site is up as you can tell. We are still working on the details so stay tuned. The original art section and future exhibitions should be up soon. Watch for all the information on our upcoming Shag show Dec. 3. We will have every print he ever did on display and for sale. These prints are the actual ones used to photograph in our book "Shag LTD." The book is already finished and we have a few preview copies. We will have them at our opening and at the book signing Dec. 10.

New Shag article in today's Orange County Register - "Artist's model."

    Too lazy to register?
    User Name - CovetN
    Password - CovetN

The interview with Shag must have happened in late August/early September - these paintings "L.A. Modern (Night)", "The Amoralists" ) (both from "L.A. By Day/Night"), and "Grace" (from "Tiki Art Too") are still in his studio.

    -----

Looking again at the L.A. By Day/Night show, it's like a kick in the gut that "West Coast Jazz" is the show print.

As Comic Book Guy from "The Simpsons" would say - worst show print ever!

Here's the OC Weekly's cover story from 2002 about the "Sophisticated Misfits" show.

    -----

Got word from Copro/Nason that the "Shag Ltd" show will run for two months and will be selling the book shortly.

...and as their brand-spankin' new site says:

Please inquire if you want us to hold something for you.

    -----

Speaking of Copro/Nason, i forgot that the LA Weekly had "Pictures From the Unibrow Revolution" last week.

    Tuesday, November 08, 2005

Found a big ol' pic of the "Shag Ltd." book cover...

Mucho respect to my new hero, Ms Vanessa, for having the foresight to copy/paste the list o' serigraphs (she's been around long enough to know how much of an idiot i am).

    -----

Being a hair away from the exalted 144 serigraphs, i am now grasping at straws... Would these three be counted?

    Shagquarium (Juxtapoz)
    8 Ball poster(8 Ball Webstore)
Blessing of the Cars poster (forgot what year)

Or how about that ad for Camel cigs that's been floating around on eBay lately?

    Monday, November 07, 2005

i had to ask 7 strangers to let me count on their fingers/toes, but i think the list o' prints from yesterday adds up to 131 - what are the thirteen that i'm missing?

Send e-mails to me with any advice/help/donations.

    -----

Copro/Nason has a new site and a blurb about "Shag Ltd" -

Our next show is Shag LTD. It will feature every print that Shag has ever done which is 144 and they will all be for sale. Please inquire if you want us to hold something for you. There will also be 2 originals of the front and back cover of the book we are publishing. More info soon.
    -----

Ted pointed out two prints i missed "The Missing Suitors" and "Guignol X" (how'd i miss those two - duh!).

    So that's 133 serigraphs! Only 11 "unknowns."

    -----

Thanks to Krista for reminding me of "The Tiki Quartet" (137 down, 7 to go) and ponders if the eventual show print from Tokyo's upcoming "California Sun" show is being counted (good question).
